My Visual Logbook

Today I showed my pair of images at Show and Tell. I was initially pleased with my images and their aesthetic.
Things pointed out to me were that the pink is darker around my models face on the right hand side. Junko thought I had photoshopped it, I hadn't noticed this before and hadn't photoshopped anything apart from the colour saturation. I realised that this dark area is a shadow, because my model was so close to the background. I couldn't avoid this dark area as the background isn't big enough for my model to stand too far away from it as it made framing an issue, so I hope to fix this in post.
In terms of research  Oliver Garner and Ruth Allen were photographers who my peers felt were similar to my work and who could help me extend my current research.

Today I did a second shoot experimenting with portraiture with colour matching.  I used props which I had photographed both Monday this week and last, and the colours which I experimented with on Monday in the studio.
I used the same set up as I had done previously, as shown in the image below. I used ambient light and a coloured piece of A2 card stuck to a wall. I positioned my model in front and directed her to pose in ways which showed the props off the best.


Improvements I made on this shoot from my last were the styling of my photographs, I wanted my models hair up this time to place more emphasis on the sunglasses and bag, and to her jaw line also.
I much prefer the outcome of this shoot and the colours are much more bold and bright; in my previous shoot the green was very washed out and I struggled to enhance this dramatically in photoshop, so I opted to a pale blue instead which still colour matched my prop and complimented my models eyes also. I am very happy with the outcome of this shoot and used what I had learned from my previous one to improve and overcome creative obstacles.










I really like this shot as a photograph by itself; the colour scheme is bright and the sunglasses stand out which was my aim. I plan to edit this image as again I have only altered the colour luminance and saturation to make the background pop, however elements which I missed in styling such as the models bra straps and marks lower the production value of my image as it doesn't look as clean and refined.

My Best Outcomes:

These two images were my favourite outcomes from this shoot. All of the images colour was very flat and wasn't popping out to me in the way I had hoped it to. I chose these images as my best outcomes based on the composition and the position of the model and the prop, showing both from the best angles and in ways which work. I plan to reshoot something similar and in addition to experiment with other props and colours, hoping to get the colour to work better, looking brighter and more blue.

Today we had a workshop with Georgie on how to use Adobe inDesign. We need to use the programme to make our mock up books for our narrative, and the programme will also be helpful when creating our photo zine for our third brief, which will require careful consideration on where we are placing photos in relation to each other and any text we include.
